Acrylic Coffee Table- Artful and Elegant, and Cheap?

The Acrylic coffee table has barged on the scene as a must have piece of furniture for many people. An acrylic coffee table is basically made from plexi-glass. It’s funny though, when most people think of an acrylic table, they think, okay that’s just a plastic table… it should be cheap. Well, with any looking around you’ll notice that’s not the case! Acrylic tables and furniture are priced somewhat like pieces of art rather than cheap furniture that we are used to getting in many retail stores.

That’s not to say you can’t get a cheaper priced acrylic table. There are plenty of acrylic tables that are considered to be “knock-offs” of original designer tables. These can be much, much cheaper. Sometimes you will have a designer table that is priced at $800-$1200, whereas the knock-off version is available for around $300. What’s the difference? Well the design is a little different, and of course you are buying the name with designers.

Designer acrylic coffee tables can be very intricate and heavy-duty in strength and weight. Some tables from manufacturers like “Plexi-Craft” will make extra thick acrylic tables with different bends, curves, designs, and thicknesses. These can basically look like a regular well crafted wood table, but is completely see through. It’s like stepping into Superman’s cave and looking at his furniture. Talk about beautiful.One of their more interesting and intricate designs is a Chest design. So you can see the contents within the chest as it lays on the ground…very artistic and interesting.
Other good designer brands include Sovet Italia, Bonaldo, Tonelli, Gallotti and Radice, and Glas. These brands have different acrylic coffee tables that run the whole spectrum of pricing. The cheaper designs that are slightly thinner with less complication in design are around $200 and up. More intricate and thick tables will be in the thousands.

Notice the Italian brand names above. Italy has been on the fore front of designing these types of tables for years. They are just gaining popularity to a much larger extent in the rest of the world.So why are these designer Acrylic coffee tables so popular, and so expensive? Well, often these acrylic tables are seen as more works of art than simple coffee table. And they really are beautiful works of art. Furniture designers who work with acrylic will create designs that become sought after peices, much like a sculpture or other work of art.

Cheap Acrylic Coffee Table Alternatives:

You can choose to get an acrylic table simply because you like the look of them and need a functional coffee table. Or you can get a one of a kind (or rare) design of acrylic table that few, if any, other people are going to have. You can say, I got this at Target for pretty cheap, or this is a Karim Rashid design that I paid $1,200 for. So there are designs for everyone. Look at the big box retailers for those cheaper models and take a look around deaper for those rare designer brands that cost a little more, but ensure your acrylic coffee tables will never be seen in another home you go to!
